[372] As with Madrid (see Chapter 2), the sources for the population
of Toledo are varied and impressionistic, being based upon a handful of
census-like documents created by the civil or religious hierarchies for
their own purposes. Until Michael Weisser completes the work on Toledo
which he has under way as this is being written, we will have to be satisfied
with fragmentary data. Table F. 1 summarizes figures encountered in various
primary and secondary sources.
