Catalan spelling has been standardized only within the last fifty years. In the pages that follow, place names within Catalonia are given according to their modern Catalan form. Many proper names, notably the city of Vic, retained their older spelling even after the standardization of the language. The spelling "Vic" replaced "Vich" in the last years of the 1970s. Therefore, in the titles of most published works the city appears as Vich, while my text reflects the new spelling.
 

Names of writers and the titles of their books written before the language regularization are given according to their original spelling. This practice leads to a number of apparent inconsistencies: Botet y Sisó's Les monedes catalanes versus Gudiol's Las monedas episcopals.
